our Kohimarama Centre
Since 2005, Bear Park Kohimarama has been a close-knit part of its community. Light and airy by design, the centre invites exploration in both wide open spaces and intimate nooks.

The Fantail room is a calm, serene space for our youngest infants, where small group sizes mean every baby is known and held with care. Large outdoor spaces support children's connection to nature from the very beginning. Our teaching team is committed to working collaboratively, always striving for both children and whanau to feel welcome, appreciated and heard.

Our Environment

Are rich with connections to our children's learning, we strive to create environments that reflect the voice of our children and celebrate their journeys. The spaces we create are filled with warmth and empower our children to discover the world for the first time.

Our Focus
The Foundation of Our Practice

At Bear Park Kohimarama, transparency is woven through the architecture. Natural light floods the learning spaces through carefully placed windows, enhancing investigations and offering children new ways to see the world around them.

We absolutely love this daycare! Both of my children have attended, and I've always felt incredibly supported by the teachers and staff. My kids have truly enjoyed their time there, and my 3-year-old is currently enrolled and thriving.

We couldn't be happier with Bear Park and the incredible team there. Our son is genuinely excited to go every single day, which says everything. The staff are brilliant, so caring, and truly go above and beyond and look after him as if he were their own. The environment is warm, nurturing, and full of joy, and we have complete confidence leaving him in their care. We couldn't recommend Bear Park more highly.

Do you trust this place with your child? For me, an easy yes. In fact, so much so, I would leave my whole family with them every day.

All staff are trustworthy, responsible, and easy to approach. This is coming from a very introverted parent that avoids small talk as much as possible. I have watched my little baby girl grow so much being here and wouldn't want a different environment for her to learn and develop in.

I have had my child at Bear Park Kohimarama since she was five months old. The educators there have gone above and beyond in caring for her and supporting my husband and I as first-time parents. Their dedication, warmth, and professionalism have meant so much to our family.

Our Learning Spaces

Within our Fantail Room, we offer a peaceful and serene environment where infants from 3 months to 17 months are provided with endless opportunities to explore and investigate the world around them. Establishing responsive and reciprocal relationships with parents and whanau enables us to follow through with the individual rhythms from home, creating an environment where children and their whanau feel a strong sense of belonging.

The Morepork Room welcomes children from 17 months to 2.5 years, with a teaching team committed to forming strong relationships with children and their families. We actively promote and support children with their developing self-help skills, fostering their sense of self-confidence and independence. We encourage collaborative learning experiences with a focus on natural and open-ended resources that stimulate creative and imaginative thinking.

Within the Kea group we foster children's independence and creativity through a purposeful and engaging environment. The Kea teachers value strong and reciprocal relationships between parents, whanau and the wider community. The Preschool at Bear Park Kohimarama is a place where children know their ideas and theories are welcomed, respected and valued.

Within the Tui Group, we support the children to develop a strong sense of identity, fostering them to discover their sense of self within the group and wider community. We value our children's voice, encouraging them to share their ideas within an environment richly resourced with materials that inspire creativity, wonder and imagination. We are inspired by the concept of ako, where learner becomes teacher and teacher becomes learner.

What is the teacher-to-child ratio?

Bear Park Kohimarama is a calm, carefully managed centre where group sizes are kept small on purpose. We maintain ratios that exceed licensing requirements, and our youngest children benefit from particularly intimate, nurturing care.

What level of experience do your teachers typically have working with young children?

Professional development is ongoing for every kaiako at Bear Park Kohimarama, regardless of qualification level. At least 80% of our teaching team hold an ECE or Primary teaching qualification at NZQA Level 7 or above, registered with the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand. Our Curriculum and Operations team, experienced qualified teachers now in leadership roles, mentor all kaiako and ensure the delivery of well-rounded, tailored curriculum at the centre.

Which age groups does Bear Park Kohimarama accept?

Tamariki from 3 months to 5 years are welcome at Bear Park Kohimarama. Our approach centres on continuity of care, giving children the stability of familiar faces and relationships as they grow.
