Children are empowered to take ownership of their learning in outdoor environments reflective of West Auckland, offering spaces to be at one with nature, secret garden spaces and shared areas. Our strong partnerships with whanau and community are at the heart of everything we do.
Bear Park Henderson's five classrooms provide an ever-evolving learning landscape that empowers every child to take ownership of their learning. We are passionate about developing an awareness of how to care for our environment, supporting our tamariki to become Kaitiakitanga – guardians of the natural world. With strong community partnerships and a deeply collaborative approach, children, teachers and whānau are co-learners who thrive alongside each other in a tuakana-teina relationship.
Our inspiring qualified teachers are passionate about providing our youngest people with rich and varied early learning experiences, grounded in strong relationships and a deep respect for each child.
Our Children
Our children come to us full of wonder, with a curious nature, ready to make sense of the world around them and learn through developing their skills in an unhurried environment. Our tamariki are encouraged to explore and test their working theories in a space where they feel safe and supported to give things a go, and know that they can reflect, reset and give things another try, as it is the journey of the learning, rather than the final product which holds the most value. We see our children as being confident, powerful and capable, and we strive to foster this in our Tamariki when they are with us through our daily interactions and our strong relationships with both them and their wider whanau.
Our Teachers
Our kaiako are all very passionate about their roles they have in our tamariki's learning journeys and the importance that these first five-year hold in laying the foundation to become capable and confident learners which we accomplish though fostering positive, caring, and strong reciprocal relationships.
We believe all children are unique individuals and our role as educators is to support and provide them with the tools for their learning journey throughout life. We strive to work alongside the children as co researchers, to empower them as young individuals with valid and valued ideas and provide a safe and respectful environment where they can test their working theories and promote their sense of wellbeing.
Our Environment
At Bear Park Henderson, our environment offers five dedicated classrooms catering for all ages and stages for our Tamariki. Our centre has an outdoor environment, reflective of West Auckland, offering spaces for children to be at one with nature, to discover cosy nests of space, and encourage them to collaborate with kaiako and each other in our secret garden spaces and shared areas. We are passionate about developing an awareness of how to care for our environment, and to support our children to be the Kaitiakitanga (guardians) of the natural world. We do this through our daily rituals as well as through our sustainable garden where the children are able to observe and tend to the plants whilst learning about our environment before gathering the fruits and vegetables that they have cared for to share with their peers.
At Bear Park Henderson, our constant focus is on creating and sustaining a learning partnership with our children, parents, whanau and teachers. Open communication and genuine reflection help us move forward together.
Our Fantail teachers value open dialogue with parents and whanau. We understand that our role with this precious age group is to establish trusting relationships, from teacher to child and teacher to parent and whanau. Through positive and caring reciprocal relationships we allow our babies the time to smoothly transition from home to our loving environment.
Morepork teachers work with the one year olds and are passionate about working with infants and toddlers. We believe it is during these years that the foundations are laid for children to become capable and confident learners. We strive to work alongside the children as co-researchers, providing a safe and respectful environment where they can test their working theories and develop their sense of wellbeing.
We believe all children are unique individuals and our role as educators is to support and provide them with the tools for their learning journey throughout life. As a multicultural team we value the diversity of our learning environment as children build their knowledge from multiple worlds. We believe in forming reciprocal and responsive relationships with each child, collaborating with families to bring out the best in every learning experience.
